Herman Arnouts is a graphic designer, book designer, and typographer. For over 40 years (until 2024) he worked in the layout department at Pelckmans Publishers. Over the years, he evolved from a print-based graphic designer to a passionate InDesign specialist. As head of the department, he placed great importance on proper training. He believes creativity should never be hindered by a lack of technical knowledge. He developed methods to design books in InDesign as accurately as possible, always keeping in mind: keep it simple. What can be done in one step, shouldn’t take two or three.

In 1992, he completed the Book Trade program at the Higher Institute for Graphic Education in Ghent. Before that, he studied Graphic Design at the Municipal Institute for Decorative Arts and Crafts in Antwerp and General Visual Arts at the School for Expression in Roosendaal.

Today he has his own business: Herman Arnouts Typography. Book layout and training are the focus here.
