alf de Jong (1973) studied Visual Communication at the Kunsthochschule Kassel and the KABK in The Hague. After completing his studies, he worked at Bureau Piet Gerards in Heerlen and Amsterdam. In 2001, he founded his own design studio together with Friedrich Forssman. Since 2003, he has run de Jong Typografie with his wife, Stephanie, focusing primarily on book design.
Since 2005, he has been a professor of typography in Saarbrücken, and since 2007, a professor at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. Together with Friedrich Forssman, he published the standard work Detailtypografie in 2001, and with Stephanie de Jong, he co-authored Schriftwechsel in 2008 (both published by Hermann Schmid, Mainz).
