Book conventions help the reader understand a book, navigate the text, and grasp the hierarchy of textual and visual elements.
However, the role of the book in society is evolving, along with reading habits and behaviors. This transformation is reflected in the book’s form.
What does this mean for typefaces, page layouts, grids, and the overall flow of a book? What possibilities do new typographic technologies offer? Where should we respect established conventions, and where can we carefully push boundaries?
Together, we will explore these questions, analyze both historical and contemporary book concepts, and develop our own approaches. Throughout this process, we will work intensively with InDesign, as only through hands-on practice can we truly test theory in application.
This short course is part of the one-year Typography & Book program, but it can also be taken separately.
A solid knowledge of InDesign is required.
Tuition fee: €475.
Discounts apply when combining multiple course modules within the same year.
