e have received the deeply sad news of the unexpected passing of Françoise Bausart. She passed away on Saturday following a tragic traffic accident. The news has come as a complete shock to us. Françoise was only 64 years old.
Since 1995, Françoise taught Handbookbinding with us. In her classes, students learned the art of binding fine books to the very highest standards. As Françoise often said herself, everything had to be “down to the last detail.”
Many students were so inspired by her lessons that they pursued the Book Arts program at the Institute for Arts and Crafts (IKA) in Mechelen under her guidance.
It was a pleasure to work with Françoise. She was a warm and kind person. Every time we met, she shared tips for fascinating outings to bookbinding exhibitions, printing museums, and unique places for bibliophiles. Her exquisite taste never led us astray.
On behalf of the board, the teaching team, the students, and alumni, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones. Our thoughts are with them during this difficult time.
