he typeface Graveur, developed by Juanjo López, a student of our Expert Course Type Design, won a European Design Award in 2022. This extended font family is now available for free to users with an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription

Graveur is a Renaissance typeface for text, inspired by the work of French punchcutter Robert Granjon (1513–1589). It was developed through study of original objects at the Museum Plantin-Moretus in Antwerp, such as Granjon’s punches and matrices, and of old printed books. The typeface has grown into an extensive font family.

The typeface supports around 223 languages using the Latin script, with an extensive range of 1189 glyphs (1416 in italics). The font offers a wide range of weights, from Book to Heavy, making it extremely flexible for various typographical purposes. Moreover, Graveur’s four optical sizes – Display, Subhead, Text and Small – are carefully designed to ensure text consistency at all sizes. Larger sizes emphasise subtle details, while smaller sizes take ink spread into account, helping to optimise readability and visual impact.

With a large character set and extensive use of OpenType features, Graveur is a versatile typeface that embodies Granjon’s style.
