Joran Proot
During this two-day, online course in English, Dr. Joran Proot will discuss aspects of the book trade in the Early Modern Period in Western Europe (about 1500–1800). Topics will be amply illustrated with examples drawn from Cultura Fonds Library, a private collection in Dilbeek near Brussels, which holds one of the largest collections of works published by Christophe Plantin (c. 1520–1589). Plantin is perhaps the most important actor in the world of the book in the sixteenth century.

Concrete examples and exercices should help better to understand different aspects of the book trade. Students are kindly invited to engage in the discussion and to ask questions.
This course is not part of the one-year course Typography & Book. However, it is aimed at alumni of that program and of the Expert Class Type Design.
The course is held in English and is available online only, via Zoom.
The course hours (12 PM to 7 PM) are slightly later than usual, to accommodate our overseas students.
Registration fee: €380.
