n this final project, you will reflect on different approaches and possibilities of ‘publishing’. Hybrid here means developing an interaction or collaboration with a partner (or partners) from a different discipline while exploring the variable aspects of the medium(s).

You formulate a theme or a question and look for interesting collaborations or ‘hybrid editorial practices’ between you and someone with a different profile (graphic designers, typographers, authors, artists, curators, editors, and/or art institutions, etc.). You then collaborate to explore which form of publishing is most suitable, relevant, or challenging for this purpose. In contrast to the ‘publishing’ of artistic practices, where the monograph, reference book, and catalog are still the most common mediums, a hybrid publishing practice is fundamentally different, precisely because the outcome is not predetermined. This can take the form of both a physical or printed, as well as a virtual format. You apply the knowledge gained from the various courses. You can take on the role of a self-publisher or collaborate with an existing player or publisher in the field.

Throughout this process, you consider all aspects of publishing, make the right decisions, and present this project both as a physical or virtual prototype and as a presentation that you explain to a jury, but that can also function without your presence (e.g., as a project for funding).

This project is further detailed in the accompanying assignment sheet.
